Mockingbird is a celebration of song s composed by a stunning cast of female songwriters including Nina Simone, June Carter Cash, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Cat Power, Gillian Welch, Moorer’s sister Shelby Lynne and many more. The title track of the collection is an original by Moorer. Moorer’s 1998 song, “A Soft Place To Fall,” was included on the soundtrack to the feature film The Horse Whisperer, which led to an appearance in the film itself, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. The opportunity gained her worldwide attention and set the stage for her career. Since, Mrs. Moorer has been featured on releases by Joan Baez, Kid Rock, The Chieftains, Los Straightjackets and most recently, the critically acclaimed album, Washington Square Serenade, by her husband Steve Earle. Mockingbird is Moorer’s sixth studio recording.
