From the wilds of Canada’s barren, rugged north comes Taima (pronounced TIE-ma), a duo whose debut self-titled album is a breathtaking explosion of emotion, culture, time and place. Taima, the album, will be in stores on February 24, 2004 through the Fullspin Music label (Yann Perreau), distributed in Canada by Fusion 3. Taima, formerly known as Taima Project, is what happens when a very talented woman meets a visionary man. Raised in Salluit, Nunavik, Taima’s Elisapie Isaac blends her captivating vocal nuances with Quebec-born multi-instrumentalist Alain Auger’s delicate, atmospheric melodies to deliver an album that illuminates a distant musical horizon with moody flourishes of light and space. Together their expressive interpretations of musings on life, death, rebirth and the ache of human experience blend to deliver one of the most uniquely beautiful Canadian pop releases in recent memory. Entirely produced and recorded by Michel Pépin at Studio Frisson in Montreal between the months of June and December 2003, the album Taima includes eleven songs that touch and soothe the soul, heart and mind. Isaac and Auger melodically sketch eleven universes that glide between fire and ice, eleven chances for nature and culture to conjoin. With a gauzy beauty reminiscent of works by Daniel Lanois, Ron Sexsmith or Emmylou Harris, Taima’s allure is as much in what you hear as in what you don’t.Already recognized in Quebec and internationally, having been invited to perform at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. this summer, Taima will tour throughout Canada in 2004, giving the rest of the country an opportunity to experience the hypnotic nuances of Taima in person.
