Lightnin' Hopkins    (edit)

Sam Lightnin' Hopkins was born in Centerville, Texas, March 15th, 1912. When he was around 10 years old, Lightnin' met Blind Lemon Jefferson (one of the most popular blues performers of that era). This encounter was to have a profound effect on Hopkins. He lived the life of a bluesman, even serving time on a Texas road gang in the late ‘30s. His first recording was made November 4th, 1946 for Aladdin Records. He went on to become one of the most popular and widely recorded bluesmen of the post war era. Lightnin' Hopkins died in Houston on January 30th, 1982.
